Every core feature on Speedtest.now is free for everyone, including anonymous visitors who have never created an account:

Will it ever cost money?
The core speed testing functionality will remain free. Speedtest.now is funded by non-intrusive advertising — not paywalls, not data sales, and not paid premium tiers. There is no "free trial" that expires and no credit card required at any point.
Why create an account if it's already free?
The main reason is result history. Without an account, your test results exist only for the duration of your browser session — closing the tab loses them. A free account stores every test permanently so you can track how your connection performs over days, weeks, and months.
The second reason is the weekly competition. If your ISP or connection genuinely delivers fast speeds, an account lets your results appear on the public leaderboard and in the Hall of Champions.
Is there advertising?
