How do I convert Mbps to MBps?

Divide the Mbps figure by 8, because there are 8 bits in a byte. For example, 100 Mbps equals 12.5 MBps and 40 Mbps equals 5 MBps. To go the other way, multiply MBps by 8.

How long does it take to download a file at a given speed?

Divide the file size in megabytes by your speed in megabytes per second (MBps). Since speeds are usually quoted in Mbps, first divide the Mbps figure by 8 to get MBps. A 1,000 MB file on a 100 Mbps line (12.5 MBps) takes about 80 seconds in ideal conditions.

Why is the real download time longer than this calculator shows?
